Leadership for Sustainable Futures
May 28, 2024
Leadership for Sustainable Futures is a collection of voices from leading European Chief Sustainability Officers and expert thought leaders of the Futur/io Institute faculty. It is inspired by the Top 100 CSO Awards.
"Leadership for Sustainable Futures" captures the essence of sustainability leadership by delving into the personal journeys and insights of Europe's foremost Chief Sustainability Officers (CSOs) alongside perspectives from other thought leaders in the sustainability space. Through intimate narratives and thought-provoking reflections, the Yearbook offers a comprehensive look at the challenges, triumphs, and evolving roles of CSOs in driving sustainability agendas forward.
The book aims to shine a light on the personal journey of the humans behind these leadership roles in large corporations and hopes to inspire more action and ambition towards achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
— Harald Neidhardt, CEO & Curator, Futur/io Institute
Our planet is grappling with pressing environmental challenges, manifesting as increasing fires, floods, and droughts. These natural crises are compounded by
growing socio-economic inequalities. An inherent flaw in our current economic system is evident, where shareholder value often trumps human and societal welfare. At the same time, threats such as pandemics, climate change, loss of biodiversity, and political instability loom large, with many nations witnessing a surge in right-wing politics and a decline in international cooperation.
We can only achieve an ambitious ‘Giant Leap’ towards an ‘Earth for all’ if we start to engineer the most rapid economic transformation in history. This needs ambitious policies, as well as activist leaders within big corporations.
The emerging leadership role of the Chief Sustainability Officer might just be the pivotal change agent we need today. Read some of the inspiring personal missions from top European CSOs in this book by the Futur/io Institute. Who knows? Some of these CSOs might become the next CEOs!
