Course Outline


Get to know frameworks to better understand sustainability-driven investments and business models that drive profit as well as value for people & the planet.
In the second module of this course we’ll discuss Climate and Energy. We will guide you through Sustainable Development Goals numbers 7 and 13.
SDG 7 – Ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all
SDG 13 – Take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts
By the end of this module, you’ll be able to:
- Report evolution of climate action and policies and assess future actions
- Infer the importance of evidenced-based decision-making and its relationship with technology
- Examine climate action from the personal, organisational and societal point of view
- Determine the role of tech companies in the search for solutions such as green hydrogen and air removal of CO2
- Describe the solutions for carbon accounting and the use of blockchain to overcome social challenges
In the third module of this course we’ll cover our Biospheres. We will guide you through Sustainable Development Goals numbers 2, 14 and 15.
SDG 2 – End hunger, achieve food security and improved nutrition and promote sustainable agriculture
SDG 14 – Conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine resources for sustainable development
SDG 15 – Protect, restore and promote sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems, sustainably manage forests, combat desertification, and halt and reverse land degradation and halt biodiversity loss
By the end of this module, you’ll be able to:
- Describe the challenges of global hunger and how innovation can tackle them
- Recognise the role of alternative proteins and micro-algae in the construction of a more sustainable food chain
- Outline the importance of sustainable and environmental agricultural technologies for an healthy biosphere
- Examine how flooding affects the biosphere and possible technological solutions to it
- Theorise the history and evolution of food and assess probable sustainable futures in the field
In the fourth module of this course we’ll discuss Health and Society. We will guide you through Sustainable Development Goals numbers 3, 4, 5, 6 and 10.
SDG 3 – Ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages
SDG 4 – Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all
SDG 5 – Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls
SDG 6 – Ensure availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all
SDG 10 – Reduce inequality within and among countries
By the end of this module, you’ll be able to:
- Describe the concept of futures literacy and explain its importance in building desirable futures.
- Understand how to innovate towards building “people-first” societies.
- Demonstrate how gender-led investment contributes to delivering some of the SDGs.
- Illustrate genomic data gathering as a path towards increasing global health.
- Recognise the importance of innovating in the global access to potable water and sanitation and improved air quality.
In the fifth module, we build on Cities & Communities to address the surrounding infrastructure to promote resilience and sustainable development. You will understand how through collaboration and digitalisation we can connect cities while driving meaningful sustainable actions on climate change. We will guide you through Sustainable Development Goals numbers 9 and 11.
SDG 9 – seeks to build resilient infrastructure, promote inclusive and sustainable industrialisation and foster innovation
SDG 11 – Make cities inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable
By the end of this module, you’ll be able to:
- Gain insights into how cities are changing and how to harness it
- Learn the opportunities of a resilient future-proof city
- Learn the framework to address smart-city needs and how you can contribute using the stakeholder approach
- See why collaboration is one of the key factors in create vibrant and equal cities
- Learn about the digital fabrication revolution and how is affecting how cities will look and operate
In the sixth module, we look into unlocking our future economies through new methods of production and consumption that help secure the planet’s resources for future generations. We’ll guide you through Sustainable Development Goals numbers 8 and 12:
SDG 8 – Promote sustained, inclusive and sustainable economic growth, full and productive employment and decent work for all
SDG 12 – Ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns
By the end of this module, you’ll be able to:
- Learn about how tech intersects with sustainability goals and how it is getting us to the SDGs faster than ever
- Exploring how our values systems can fundamentally change both the processes and outcomes of what we do
- Gain insights into how local materials with global information will transform global supply chains
- Learn about consumers who feel overwhelmed by the scale of the climate crisis and how to empower them
In the seventh module we look at d Private & Public Partnerships. This looks into speeding up the governmental development process to mobilise different parts of society (academia, private sector, civil society) around common goals. We address the strategic use of R&D procurement to bring about innovative solutions. We’ll guide you through Sustainable Development Goals numbers 1, 16 and 17:
SDG 1 – End poverty in all its forms everywhere
SDG 16 – Promote peaceful and inclusive societies for sustainable development, provide access to justice for all and build effective, accountable and inclusive institutions at all levels
SDG 17 – Strengthen the means of implementation and revitalize the global partnership for sustainable development
By the end of this module, you’ll be able to:
- Gain insights into how to harness the various stakeholders necessary to create resilient change
- Understand how new models of businesses work to secure profit, help the planet and create lasting social good.
- See the potential of the “moonshot approach” to investing
- Learn from some of the most successful venture capitalist that create resilience through impact investing in people and companies

As the closing bookend to LISIE, this module focuses on concrete steps for active participants. The final chapter is designed to solidify your learnings and help you get involved by taking your ideas from your mind to implementation.
