Faculty Bio

“My hope for our future is that we will live in peace and prosperity. If we work hard enough, we will cope with climate change and we will manage the end of fossil energy. Our greatest effort must be the ending of political stupidity and aggression.”
Gerhard is an art historian, philosopher, serial entrepreneur and the current Rector of the Salzburg University of Applied Sciences in Austria.
He is also a member of the Technology Department of Academy of Sciences and Arts Salzburg.
Gerhard has previously held the following positions: Dean of the faculty MultiMediaArt at the University of Applied Sciences in Salzburg; Lecturer for Media Theory at the Macromedia University of Applied Sciences in Munich; Head of the Institute of Design and Technology at the Zurich University of the Arts, Switzerland; Vice-Rector for Research and Development at the University of Design and Art Zurich, Switzerland; Vice-Director of the Media Museum at the Center for Art & Media Technology in Karlsruhe, Germany and Director of the Medialab at the Center for Art and Media Technology in Karlsruhe, Germany.
